TL;DR: Full-time internship at NASA HQ in DC supporting AI development with the Chief AI Officer team. Perfect for undergrads with Python or R skills and a passion for solving real-world space challenges using open-source tools and cloud platforms.

Join the frontier of space exploration as a full-time AI Innovation Intern with NASA’s Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC. Work alongside NASA experts to build and test AI systems that help power missions across the agency.

You’ll apply foundational AI and data science skills—using tools like Python, R, pandas, scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch—to analyze complex datasets, develop models, and prototype solutions. Experience with Jupyter notebooks or R Studio is a plus, as is familiarity with open-source tools (like Hugging Face or spaCy) and cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

No aerospace background required—just curiosity, creativity, and a solid technical foundation. Maybe you’ve built a simple classifier, used NLP to analyze text, or visualized data for a class project. You’ll get hands-on mentorship from NASA AI professionals and learn how AI is scaled and governed within a large federal agency.

This is a chance to grow your skills, contribute to real NASA projects, and help shape the future of AI in space—from Earth science to deep space missions
