To qualify for the Craig D. Butler Scholarship, the recipient needs to be a student of African American descent who resides in Philadelphia County at the time of application and must have a scholastic average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Applicants must also be entering a two or four-year college , university as a Full Time freshman student in the fall of the year of the announcement of the scholarship award or entering an accredited vocational-technical school as a Full Time freshman in the fall of the year of the announcement of the scholarship award.

All eligible candidates are encouraged to complete and return the scholarship application packet. Applications are distributed annually and are available for download at any time. All scholarship candidates need two (2) statements of personal recommendations are required to support your application. Utilize the attached forms to complete this portion of the application. One from an instructor or school official who is familiar with your academic work. One from an adult (non-relative) who can write about your community service work and/or give a personal character reference. May be a counselor, administrator, club sponsor, job coordinator, coach, or community leader.
