Join NASA’s data revolution as a full-time Data Maturity Assessment Intern supporting NASA’s Chief Data Officer at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC. In this role, you’ll be at the forefront of developing and implementing a comprehensive data maturity assessment framework to evaluate and enhance how America’s space agency manages its vast information resources.

Your primary responsibility will be establishing the mechanisms to conduct data maturity assessments using PowerApps, creating user-friendly interfaces that enable consistent evaluation across NASA’s complex data ecosystem. You’ll connect directly with stakeholders from various NASA centers and departments, conducting structured interviews with active members of NASA’s Enterprise Data Working Group to determine optimal assessment methodologies and metrics. These conversations will inform how the assessment will be quantified, scored, and ultimately used to guide data management improvements agency-wide.
The ideal candidate has demonstrated foundational data skills—perhaps you’ve created interactive dashboards visualizing information, designed survey instruments to collect and analyze data, or built database solutions for organizing information.

You’ll apply these skills to help design and prototype a data dashboard that showcases the finalized data maturity assessment results in an accessible, actionable format for NASA leadership.
Throughout the internship, you’ll report directly to NASA’s Deputy Chief Data Officer and collaborate with seasoned NASA Data Scientists on this high-visibility project with agency-wide impact. This hands-on experience will provide valuable insights into enterprise data governance while contributing to a framework that will help NASA’s astronauts, scientists, and engineers better leverage data assets to further humanity’s exploration of the final frontier.
