Opportunity Details

The Union of Concerned Scientists’ (UCS) Global Security Program is starting a national campaign to reduce the risks posed by nuclear weapons. The overall goal of the campaign is to educate and engage activists, supporters and experts, as well as the concerned public, on the issue and to build support for national policies that will reduce nuclear risk. The campaign seeks to build a national network of UCS Science Network members and UCS supporters in key states with whom we interact with on a regular basis and work with to engage in a range of advocacy and public education activities.

The intern will help in meaningful ways to address one of the planet’s most critical issues – the threat posed by nuclear weapons. The intern will gain direct experience working on public policy issue advocacy, public education and engagement and grassroots organizing. He/she will develop a better understanding and experience with conducting effective issue campaigns across many platforms, including traditional and social media, and events. The intern will improve writing and speaking abilities, persuasion and grassroots organizing skills and learn how to interact with scientists, concerned citizens, issue activists and other partners. He/she will work directly with legislative and communications professionals and issue experts at one of the nation’s most respected public interest advocacy organizations.
